Our Secret Safari Spots Revealed for Each Month of the Year!

What Months Should I Take My Safari to Africa?

Africa is a vast continent with a range of climates, so there is always a safari destination that is in season. In a nutshell, here’s are some of our favorites:

January: Africa’s Green Season Safaris in Botswana

In January, Africa’s green season is in full swing, with plenty of babies and predators to make your wildlife-spotting particularly memorable.

February: Serengeti Great Migration Safari in Tanzania

In February, light rains and plentiful grasses for grazing bring out calving wildebeest in Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park.

March: View the Mist of Victoria Falls

In March you can expect to see the Victoria Falls at its peak flow. Expect to get wet, so bring your rain jacket!

April: A Classic Big Five in Kruger National Park on a Family Safari

A highlight of an April spring break safari for the whole family would be a classic “Big Five” safari in South Africa’s famed Kruger National Park.

May: The Ngorongoro Crater in Tanzania

May is a great time to enjoy the delicate beauty of flowers and the predators on the hunt in Tanzania’s Ngorongoro Crater.

June: Red Dunes of Namibia

Marvel at the stunning contrast of bright blue skies over gigantic red sand dunes in Sossusvlei, Namibia - a favorite for June.

July: Canoe down the Zambezi River in Zimbabwe or Zambia

In July, your guide will take you downstream on a gentle canoe safari while you watch the elephants graze on the shore.

August: Wildebeests and Zebras in the Great Migration

In August more than a million wildebeests and zebras may begin their dramatic crossing of the Mara River, in the Great Migration.

September: Walking Safaris in Zambia

Take an active walking safari in South Luangwa National Park, Zambia, an amazing way to get up close to rich concentrations of leopards, elephants, hippos and giraffes in an unspoiled setting.

October: Devil’s Pool at Victoria Falls

In October it’s hot in Africa so you’ll enjoy a refreshing soak in Devil’s Pool at the edge of the Victoria Falls.

November: The Gorgeous Beaches of Cape Town

In November you can escape the onset of the Northern Hemisphere’s short, dark days at a gorgeous beach in Cape Town.

December: The Chimpanzees and Gorillas of Uganda

In December, think about gorilla and chimpanzee trekking in Kibale and Bwindi, Uganda. You’ll have just one hour to enjoy your primate experiences, so you might want to book two days.

These and many more seasonal favorites await you in Africa.
