Eastern Cape

The Eastern Cape’s private reserves boast different biomes to the more northern parks, offering some once-in-a-lifetime sightings of loping brown hyena, bat-eared fox, sprinting cheetah, mighty rhino, and busy aardvark. The Eastern Cape was ‘frontier country’ for 1820 settlers and many safari lodges have a historical feel from when farmland was turned back to nature and the old buildings were converted to guest accommodation. Bonus: the area is malaria-free.
